#1 – If the earth is sick we are sick

There is a cause and effect in how we treat the planet. A green,  life giving environment has proven to support health. A garbage ridden living area breeds disease.

For many people living in the crisis of extreme poverty, what the environment looks like is not that important. This simply compounds the problem of poverty with increase health issues.

That can change with political will. We were visiting Rwanda in 2012 where there is one of the best examples of government leadership. This shows that it is possible to have a healthy environment

In the book the Tipping Point Malcohm Gladwell tells the story of how New York was near bankrupt in the 90’s – A new mayor and chief of police change the priority of the city. Their thought was if people throw garbage or urinated in the street than they know they could get away with bigger things. They felt that was the root of one of the highest crime rates in the USA. They slapped down on the little things like garbage and the attitude of the city changed and crime went to a all time low and so did the economics of the city

Rwanda’s president seems to be doing the same with his law against spreading garbage. The economic grow of the country is twice what the continent. Cause and effect seems to be real.
